Daytona 500 = February 14, 2010

February 18, 1996
I started out watching the #29 Scooby Doo race car; 1. I was only 7 at the time and I watched the Cartoon Network all the time and 2. Scooby Doo is my favorite cartoon character. Though Steve Grissom and the #29 car failed to win the race and came in 27th place, 9 laps down, which is ok; Dale Jarrett won the race in the #88 Ford Quality Care and Dale Earnhardt, Sr. came in second in the #3 Goodwrench. As you'll see this has some fascinating coincidences in the future.

Fast Forward......15 years

February 14, 2010
The Scooby Doo race car is no longer around and now I am a Dale, Jr. fan for many reasons, but that is for another day. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. who drives the #88 Amp Energy, he started on the outside of the pole next to Mark Martin. As the race progressed he was mid pack about the whole race. With 6 laps to go (which was the first green-white checkered flag), Dale Jr was sitting 22nd which meant he started on the 11th row, with 4 laps to go (the second green-white checkered) he was 16. And then the 3rd and final green white checkered was with 2 laps remaining, where he was sitting 10th, at the checkered flag he drove to an Intimidating second place. The last 2 lap charge driven by Dale Jr, was ever so reminiscing of his late father, Dale Earnhardt. Which my first ever Daytona 500, his dad finished 2nd and for Dale Jr, he finished 2nd in my 15th Daytona 500. How ironic?

This was an amazing race, it always has been and it always will be. For the racers its the Super Bowl of NASCAR, for the race fans it is what we wait for for a longing and dreadful two and a half months.

Minus the pot hole issues at Daytona this year, my driver drove to an incredible second place finish and I couldn't be any happier on Valentine's Day this year! :)
